Mobile Samsung’s new smartphone can be folded twice Galaxy Z TriFold / Samsung By N. Pedersen 5. December 2025 Samsung has just unveiled its first smartphone with a triple foldable display – a special edition at a price point far above the typical flagship model. South Korean tech giant Samsung has unveiled its first smartphone with three foldable sections. The device, named Galaxy Z TriFold, is being launched as a special edition and will be available in South Korea from December 12. With a price tag of $2443, equivalent to approximately $15,500, it is noticeably more expensive than the new iPhone 17. The phone marks a new phase in Samsung’s venture into foldable devices, but comes a year after Chinese Huawei launched a similar model. Unlike previous foldable smartphones that only fold once, the Galaxy Z TriFold has three screen sections that fold out to a total screen area of 10 inches. Exclusive model with artificial intelligence According to Samsung, the phone is not intended for the mass market. Alex Lim, Vice President of Samsung Electronics, describes the model as a “special edition” and emphasizes that its purpose is to offer new possibilities for creative and productive work. When the device is fully unfolded, the large screen offers better opportunities for multitasking and content creation. The phone is only available in black and weighs 309 grams. It measures less than 0.5 cm at its thinnest point, making it remarkably slim despite its foldable construction. The Galaxy Z TriFold is also equipped with generative artificial intelligence features that can be used in real-time for things like screen sharing and camera functions. Pressure from competitor Apple The launch of the advanced model comes at a time when Samsung is feeling increased competitive pressure from Apple. According to research firm Counterpoint, Apple is expected to take the lead in the global smartphone market in 2025 with a market share of 19.4 percent, while Samsung is estimated at 18.7 percent. The Galaxy Z TriFold is therefore both a technological flagship and a strategic statement. With its high price and niche positioning, it marks a new direction for foldable smartphones, but also an attempt to maintain innovation leadership in a rapidly evolving market.
